I listened to this twice. Hubs and I came up with a "secret signal" which was a wide-eyed look across the room translating into "Help I need air" in other words, get me out of this conversation! I did it when my young adult stepson was giving me the sob story and hitting me up for money as frequently happens at the holiday. It was the sign for my husband to come over and rescue me. Also he did it when his daughter was complaining about how he treated her mother/his ex wife so I came over and made chit chat which stopped it all.
Thanks for teh great tip and hope the holiday was good for all.

Having been pressured to do Thanksgiving, Christmas, Passover, you name it, with my husband's ex by my in-laws and my stepkids every year, I was so helped by this podcast.

Thank you thank you, we got out of Tgiving with her this year because for once my husband was able to say no to the kids on that score. Guess what? His daughter came to have Tgiving with us anyway and I think that has given him a shot of confidence.

No more holidays with my husband's ex. That's my New Years Resolution. I do enough every day of the year. I want the holidays for me, my husband, and his kids and in-laws if they want to join. If having the ex is a pre-condition, then the answer is no. Thanks so much for the insights!
