CBC Radio Interviews: “Is Marriage Necessary?”

I'll be discussing the state of marriage on various CBC morning programs Friday FEb 12 from 6-9 am EST
For any Canadian blog followers and FB fans, please tune in to your local CBC radio station tomorrow a.m. to hear me talk about the state of marriage in 2010, which will be running on numerous CBC morning shows nationally ! And call your local CBC station if you’d like them to air the interview.
I’ll be discussing how too often we fail to understand that real marriages between real people are tied to Marriage the social institution. When it becomes less relevant and necessary, we need extra help.

NO IT ISN’T. Necessary, I mean. And I wish I had forgone it sometimes. It’s giving me something to think about, this idea that maybe I’m struggling in my marriage (to a man with kids) because the institution of marriage isn’t relevant/alive as it once was?
I agree we’re not going to give up on romance and love. But marriage? We might be able to live and live well without it!

I think marriage is relevant. Nothing says commitment quite like the words, “Marry me.” In a second marriage especially, I think it gave not only me a sense of security and completion, but also my kids. We’re in this for the long haul. I don’t speak for everyone I know, but for me it was very, very necessary.
